In this episode of “Baseball Related Songs” we pay attention to “I hope this gets to you” performed by the Daylights, the defunct alternate rock band from Los Angels that was formed in 2004.
The Daylights was a a trio that was fronted by the brothers Ran Jackson and Ricky Jackson, with Svend Lerche on Drums. Best known for their song, “I Hope This Gets To You.” The song was released in December 2010 on YouTube. It was based on a concept they created with their roommate for his long distance girlfriend. Within the first 72 hours, the video was viewed over 1.5 million times. In fact it was a virtual love letter.
Their self titled album “The Daylights” was released September 14, 2010 on the band’s own label, 87th Floor Records. The album spent 5 weeks on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart. “Rogue Machine” and “I Hope This Gets To You” both reached Top 50 at Hot AC radio, and The Daylights were the only unsigned band in the Top 100. “I Hope This Gets To You” went to #4 on Sirius XM.
Their song “Outsider” was featured in The Sims 2 as a Simlish cover.
In 2013, the band split up.
But what makes the song “I hope this gets to you” baseball related? Well, MLB used it as theme song for the MLB Generations commercial in 2012. Here is the commercial:
