Last week, the Austrian Baseball Federation announced that the Baseball Bundesliga would start in July. The other day, the Federation announced the highest Austrian league will start on July 3rd.
According to the website, 20 games in two months is a very tight schedule. Teams will be split in a Western and an Eastern Division. With the 2020 schedule, the teams will play teams of their own division in a series of two home games and a series of two road games. Next to these home and road series against the own division, a round with series vs the teams of the other division is scheduled. In this way, each team will play ten home and ten road games.
The playoff format will contain a quarter-final: the first-place team of each division will face the fourth-place team of the other division in a best of three series. Second-place teams will face third-place teams. The semi-finalists will also play a best of three format. The championship series will be played in a best of five format.
As written above, the regular season will start on July 3rd and will continue until September 12. The playoffs will start on September 19. The projected starting date for the championship series is October 10.
Here is the schedule of the opening weekend:
Each division contains four teams.
The Eastern Division contains Diving Ducks Wiener Neustadt, Traiskirchen Grasshoppers, Vienna Metrostars, and Vienna Wanderers.
The Western Division contains Attnang-Puchheim Athletics, Dornbirn Indians, Feldkirch Cardinals, and Hard Bulls (the community is called Hard).
