On the first day of the European Champions Cup, the following games were scheduled: Group A: Deurne Spartans @ Arrows Ostrava and Curaçao Neptunus @ Parmaclima Parma. Group B: Rouen Huskies @ Bonn Capitals and UnipolSai Bologna @ L&D Amsterdam Pirates.
Deurne Spartans 2 – 17 Arrows Ostrava
In every possible way, Arrows Ostrava was superior to Deurne Spartans. Not only did Ondrej Satoria keep the Belgium team limited to two runs on three hits, but the Czech offense also exploded for 17 runs on ten hits. Besides that, the Belgian defense committed three errors that led to eight unearned runs.
With a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning, Ostrava flexed its muscles and scored seven runs, which would have been enough for the win. In that third inning, Ostrava hit for the cycle as a team and stole a couple of bases to plate those seven runs.
What could Deurne do back? Not much as the team was kept in check by Ondrej Satoria. In the second inning and in the fourth inning Spartans scored a run but from there the offense fell short. Eventually, Arrows Ostrava even did not have to play seven innings as the game was cut short after six due to the 15-run lead.
Ondrej Satoria earned the win and Andersen Gerdel took the loss after three innings.
Average-wise, Jakub Malik was the best hitter for Arrows Ostrava as he went 2 for 2 with two doubles and an RBI and two runs scored.
Curaçao Neptunus 2 – 1 Parmaclima Parma
Game report
Rouen Huskies – Bonn Capitals
In a wild game, a 7-1 lead wasn’t enough for the Bonn Capitals to walk off as a winner. Five singles, a passed ball, a groundout and a triple led to seven runs for the reigning German champion. After the Capitals had taken that lead in the second inning, the Rouen Huskies jumped on starting pitcher Zacry Dodson. In two innings, the French champion turned the tables as it scored three times in the third and five times in the fourth to take the lead and never look back. Eventually, Dodson was pulled after 3.2 innings and nine runs allowed.
On the French side, starting pitcher Yolmer Camacho lasted a lot longer as he pitched long enough to earn the win (eight innings). Keino Perez took the mound in the ninth and retired the first two batter but then couldn’t get out of the inning without surrendering two more runs to Bonn.
Yolmer Camacho earned the win as he struck out fourteen. The loss went to Zacry Dodson.
Junior Sosa was the best hitter for Rouen as he went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored.
UnipolSai 1 – 2 L&D Amsterdam Pirates
