Tennessee Smokies offer small consolation to those affected by government shutdown
Those who are affected by the shutdown of the government will receive Opening Day tickets by the Tennessee Smokies. The club announced this today. Opening Night for the Smokies (AA, Southern League, Chicago Cubs) is scheduled for April 4 when they will host the Mississippi Braves.
If somebody has been affected by the current Government Shutdown, they can contact the Smokies Office to receive (2) free ticket vouchers for the Smokies home opener. Those affected by the government shutdown can call the Smokies Ticket Office at 865-286-2300 to reserve their ticket vouchers for Opening Night.
The Smokies aren’t the only club that has been reaching out to the victims of the shutdown. Also, the Quad Cities River Bandits (A Full Season, Midwest League, Houston Astros) bought meals for Transport Security Administration officers.
The government shutdown has hit day 28 and is the longest in the history of the United States as Donald Trump made this move to get the wall along the Mexican border.
The Tennessee Smokies finished the 2018 season with an overall 67-71 record in the Southern League Northern Division. The club has won four Southern League championships: 1974, 1978 and most recently, 2004.
