Zander Wiel added to Southern League Post Season All-Star team

Zander Wiel has received the honor to be added to the Southern League Post Season All-Star team. The son of a Curaçao born father was in the top two of the rankings in two offensive categories.

After a decent season at A Advanced last year he got a promotion to AA and he never betrayed the trust the Minnesota Twins put in him. He was simply lights out this season. A .311 batting average and a .382 OBP (both ranked second). The outfielder’s good numbers did not help his club, the Chatanooga Lookouts, as they are dead last in the Southern League North division and out of contention.

His good performance did not get unnoticed. On August 21 he was promoted to AAA Rochester but so far he is struggling at the plate with an average of .171. On the bright side, in his last two games, Zander went 3 for 7, raising his batting average from .107 to .171.

With the Chattanooga Lookouts, Zander split time between the outfield and first base, his natural position. In the outfield (right field and left field) he played flawlessly. At first base, he committed three errors in fifty games.

2018 is Zander’s fourth season in professional baseball so you can say that he has made some strides. Playing at AAA in only your fourth season is something to write home about.
