On day one of round 13, the game between Silicon Storks and Curaçao Neptunus was rained out and is rescheduled for tomorrow night. Despite the lousy weather today, all other games went on. L&D Amsterdam Pirates hosted Meerlease Pioniers, DSS headed to Amersfoort to face Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort and HCAW hosted De Glaskoning Twins.

Meerlease Pioniers  0  –  5  L&D Amsterdam Pirates
Six solid shutout innings in which he gave up only two runs and in which he raised his Pioniersstrikeout record with eleven (!) gave Rob Cordemans the win. His opponent, Lars Huijer lasted five innings in which he gave up three runs (two earned) and struck out seven as he took the loss. In total, three Pirates pitchers limited Pioniers to only three hits.
Pirates took an early lead in the first inning when leadoff hitter Remco Draijer was hit by a pitch. Nick Urbanus got on base to a fielder’s choice that wasn’t executed very well as Draijer reached second base and could advance to third thanks to an error by second baseman Duco Nuijten. When Nick Urbanus attempted to steal second base, he was thrown out but Remco Draijer could score on the play. Pirates scored several insuranceAmsterdam Piratesruns in the final three innings, two in the seventh, and one in the eighth and the ninth to reach the final score.
Average wise, Aidan Finnegan was the best hitter as he went 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.

DSS  1  –  4  Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort
Even though the club is trailing by four points in the standings, Cityside ApartmentsDSS Quick Amersfoort cannot be ruled out completely in the battle for the fourth spot in the standings. Tonight the club grabbed one of its last straws as it beat DSS.
Things looked a bit gloomy after DSS had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning but the team from Amersfoort managed to tie the game in the fourth inning. One inning later Quick Amersfoort took the lead as it scored another run. In the seventh inning, with the bases loaded, Quick Amersfoort scored twice after Rowan van Hoek hit into a forceout at second base and shortstop Tommy van de Sanden committed a throwing error as he tried to turn a double play.
Colin van Laar pitched a gem. In seven innings, he allowed one run on five hits and a walk as he struck out nine for the win. Greg Mosel, who didn’t pitch a bad game as well, took the loss.
Three hitters went 1 for 3 for Cityside Apartments Quick Amersfoort: Ryan Dale with a triple and two runs scored, Bas de Jong and Remian Denis with an RBI.

De Glaskoning Twins  4  –  4  HCAW
Almost everything went De Glaskoning Twins’ way tonight. After the team blew a 2-0Twins lead, it fought back to finish the game with a tie. Next to that, the competition lost, so the club could extend its lead for fourth place with a point.
For six innings, Shogo Nakashima ruled on the mound as he gave up only two hits. But the seventh inning was a bridge too far. Two singles, a double, an intentional walk and a throwing error allowed HCAW to score four times. But once again, the team showed resilience. Twins had taken a lead in the third inning thanks to a one-man show of Jarreau Martina. After he drew a walk, he stole second, then stole third and scored thanks to a throwing error by pitcher Chris Pfau. In the sixth, Twins extended its lead to two runs but that appeared not to be enough. Eventually the team showed some resilience in the ninth inning. With runners in scoring position and two outs,HCAW Jarreau Martina came through with a single through the right side to drive in Chris Gé and pinch runner Max Kops. Thijs Steenwijk took the mound and kept HCAW from scoring thanks to a game-ending double play.
Both Ruar Verkerk and Jarreau Martina went 2 for 4. Martina doubled, drove in two and scored once himself.
