Another good outing for Tom de Blok
Tom de Blok seems to have found his groove again. In Wednesday game vs the Clearwater Threshers (Miami Marlins), Tom clinched his second win of the season.
The right-handed Dutchman started the game in an impressive way as he retired the side in the first three innings. In the fourth though, he got into trouble as he allowed the Threshers to load the
bases but the 22-year old managed to pitch out of the jam as he retired the final two batters on a flyout and a popout.
In the fifth inning, Tom gave up his sole run to the Threshers as he hit the leadoff hitter with a pitch, issued a walk and eventually gave up a single that drove in Clearwater’s first run of the game.
In the sixth, Tom loaded the bases again but partially thanks to a missed catch attempt by his catcher. Before he was pulled in favor of Alfred Guitierrez, Tom managed to get the first out of the inning on a strikeout. As Guitierrez retired the next two batters, De Blok wasn’t tabbed for more runs that game.
As a result, Tom won his second game of the season, improving to 2-3 and lowered his ERA from 7.15 to 6.11. Tom walked three and struck out four.
Eventually, the 6-1 lead the Flying Tigers had appeared to crumble before their eyes but the rally of the Threshers in the ninth inning just fell short.
