Jan Tomek joins Munich-Haar Disciples for 2018
German First Bundesliga club Munich-Haar Disciples announced today they have signed Czech national team player Jan Tomek for the 2018 season.
Last year, Tomek joined Curaçao Neptunus to pitch for the farm team, but due to many injuries, Tomek pitched the biggest chunk of the season for the flagship team.
A few weeks ago, a source told the Dutch Baseball Hangout, Jan Tomek would return to the Czech Republic because he wanted to study. Of course Munich is a lot closer to the Czech Republic, but the question is if he can combine his study with playing for the Disciples.
Jan confirmed that it is still his intention to study but the Disciples offered him accommodation, which gives him time to study and prepare for the upcoming school year.
Nevertheless, the signing of Tomek is a smart move by the Disciples. With him in their ranks, the club may be a contender.
Last year with Curaçao Neptunus, Tomek performed very well. In six appearances during the regular Dutch hoofdklasse season, Tomek posted a microscopic 0.84 ERA.
In the 2017 playoffs, Tomek went 2-0 in eight relief appearances with a 1.65 ERA.
During the 2016 season, Jan played for the Regensburg Legionäre from Regensburg. During that season he posted a 2.22 ERA with 40 Ks and 20 BB in 53.2 innings. During the 2016 season he started for Regensburg vs L&D Amsterdam Pirates in that year’s European Champions Cup. In a pitching matchup with Robin Schel of L&D Amsterdam Pirates, he took the loss as he allowed an unearned run.
Jan masters a two-seamer, a slider and a changeup.
