Dutch playoffs 2017: Round three, day 2

On the second day of round three, L&D Amsterdam Pirates hosted Curaçao Neptunus and Hoofddorp Pioniers hosted HCAW after the previous game was rained out twice.

Curaçao Neptunus  1  –  7  L&D Amsterdam Pirates
After a scoreless first inning, L&D Amsterdam Pirates opened the score in the bottom of the second inning. With Gilmer Lampe on second and Danny Rombley on first, Kenny Berkenbosch hit an infield fly to first base. But thanks to a throwing error by first baseman Gregory Muller, both runners could advance to the next base and Gilmer Lampe could score the opening run.

Curaçao Neptunus starter Orlando Yntema pitched four strong innings in which he allowed three hits, but in the fifth, he could not get out of the innings after recording two outs. With Max Clarijs on second base, Zerzinho Croes singled to center field to drive in Clarijs. A fielding error and a single later, Pirates had loaded the bases. The two singles and three runs that followed were the sign for manager Ronald Jaarsma to replace Yntema with Elton Koeiman. A single and a wild pitch drove in two more runs for Pirates to give the team a 7-0 lead.

Neptunus scored their only run in the top of the sixth when Gianison Boekhoudt scored on Dwayne Kemp’s single to right center field.

Kevin Heijstek earned the win after 7.2 innings in which he gave up one run on seven hits and a walk and struck out three. Orlando Yntema took the loss.

Best hitter for L&D Amsterdam Pirates was Zerzinho Croes, who went 3 for 5 with a RBI and a run scored.

HCAW  0  –  6  Hoofddorp Pioniers
An easy win for Hoofddorp Pioniers today. HCAW was kept in check completely by the pitching of Pioniers. Chris Pfau pitched 6.1 innings in which he allowed only one hit. But Pfau gave up eight walks though. Two of those eight walks led to a bases loaded situation in the sixth inning, but Pfau retired the next two batters to get out of the jam. The relievers Glen Wassink and Maickel Rietel pitched combined 2.1 perfect innings.

Pioniers opened the score in the first inning. Consecutive singles by Brennan Nijhof and Mervin Gario and an unassisted groundout to first base hit by Jeffrey Arends put runners in scoring position. It was Dudley Leonora who drove both runners in for the 2-0 lead.

Back-to-back walks and a single by Oliver van der Wijst, drove in the third run for Pioniers in the third inning. Mervin Gario advanced to third base on Jeffrey Arends’ flyout to right field. When Oliver van der Wijst was caught in a 1-3-6-3 rundown, Mervin Gario headed home to score the fourth run for Pioniers.
In the seventh and the eighth inning, Pioniers added a run each to reach the final score of 6-0. Gerelateerde afbeelding
