Dutch playoffs 2017: Round 2, day 2

In the two games of round two of the Dutch baseball playoffs, HCAW hosted L&D Amsterdam Pirates while Hoofddorp Pioniers hosted Curaçao Neptunus and handed them an unexpected loss by the smalles possible margin.
L&D Amsterdam – HCAW
In a matchup between the winner of the regular competition and the number three,
HCAW took a 1-0 in the second inning. With Kevin Heijstek on the mound, Rachid Engelhardt hit a one out double down the left field line. He advanced to third on Seb Visser’s groundout to first base and scored when Rossini Frolijk singled up the middle.
But in the fourth inning, Pirates cashed in when they loaded the bases. Patrick Bok drew a six-pitch walk to walk in Nick Urbanus for the tie. Jesse Aussems needed seven pitches to walk in Danny Rombley for the go-ahead run. Two innings later Pirates added two more runs to their score to take a 4-1 lead. Gilmer Lampe scored from third base when Kenny Berkenbosch hit into a 5-6 fielders choice. After a single by Patrick Bok and a wild pitch by Jasper Elfrink, who replaced Kaj Timmermans earlier that inning, Berkenbosch scored on Rachid Gerard’s single to right field.
With a three run seventh inning, Pirates extended their lead to five runs after HCAW had scored a run in the bottom of the sixth. But in the of the eighth inning HCAW loaded the bases as Dennis Burgersdijk struggled and was replaced by Nick Veltkamp Pirates.
Veltkamp started his outing with a walk to load the bases. Kevin Weijgertse drove in Vince Rooi on a 4-3 groundout. But HCAW failed to take advantage of more runners in scoring position as Nick Veltkamp got out of the inning without further damage. Both teams scored a run in the ninth to reach the final score of 8-4.
Kevin Heijstek earned the win. In seven innings he gave up two runs on nine hits, walked one and struck out three. Kaj Timmermans took the loss. In 5.1 innings he gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks and struck out two.
Best hitter for L&D Amsterdam Pirates was Danny Rombley, who went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
HCAW collected as many hits as Pirates did, but the Amsterdam based team was more clutch and took advantage of the three errros HCAW committed.
Curaçao Neptunus 1 – 2 Hoofddorp Pioniers
Curaçao Neptunus loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the first inning but only
managed to get one run when Dwayne Kemp singled home Shaldimar Daantji on a hit to left field. Hoofddorp Pioniers tied the game in the bottom of the first. Mervin Gario drew a one out walk, stole second and scored on Jeffrey Arends’ single through the left side. One inning later, Pioniers would take the lead when Gianni Frolijk scored on Mark Smit’s single up the middle.
Chris Pfau worked his way through six innings and needed 110 pitches to keep Neptunus at bay. Pfau was replaced by Glenn Wassink in the top of the seventh inning. Wassink limited Neptunus to one hit in two innings and and struck out one for the hold. Maickel Rietel, who replaced Wassink in the ninth, also gave up a hit and fanned one for the save.
The win went to Chris Pfau as he gave up one run on seven hits and five walks and
struck out three. Orlando Yntema took the loss. In 2.1 innings he gave up two runs on four hits and five walks and struck out three. Yntema needed fifty pitches.
Best hitter for Hoofddorp Pioniers in this low scoring game was Gianni Frolijk, who went 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored.
