Lynchburg HillCats rebrand

The Lynchburg HillCats, A Advanced team (Carolina League) of the Cleveland Indians, have adopted a new logo and a new color scheme. They said farewell to the forest green and the cartoonesque logo and replaced it with a more modern look.

In all logos there is a combination of navy and two shades of green. In April the team started a name the team contest, but an overwhelming number of fans wanted to stick with the name HillCats.

“This celebration signifies an exciting time in Lynchburg baseball history,” said Team President Chris Jones. “With the fans voicing their strong support for the Hillcats name, we have been able to maintain that heritage and fan connection while creating some new traditions and a new identity moving forward. I am extremely pleased with the reactions and feedback we have received initially about the new logo and colors.”

A modernized Hillcat head is the centerpiece of the identity. In the main logo, the the seven hills of Lynchburg are pictured, or at least a part of them. . A new L-shaped paw and leaping Hillcat are the new secondary logos. Seven Hills Green, Blue Ridge Blue and Midnight Blue make up the team’s fresh new colors.

The new logos have been designed by San Diego based Brandiose. This logo is very unlike Brandiose. Normally the logos designed by that company are very recognizable. These logos are really different.

The development process began last May when Brandiose met in Lynchburg with fans, staff and community members to learn about the stories, history, and personality of the region. Brandiose developed the logos, uniforms and mascot.
The San Diego based design company has created plenty of logos for clubs like the Casper Ghosts (now the Grand Junction Rockies), the Stockton Ports, the Biloxi Shuckers, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Everett AquaSox, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos and the Cincinnati Reds, to name a few.

Personally I am not sold on this new look yet. Perhaps the new caps and uniforms will be persuasive but for now I cannot say that I like the new brand.
