Milwaukee signs deal with Mudcats

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed a two year player development contract that will link both clubs to each other through the 2018 season.

The Brewers were one of two MLB clubs that still had not signed a PDC with an A Advanced club. Their former A Advanced affiliate, the Brevard County Manatees moved to central Florida and signed a deal with the Atlanta Braves.

The Brewers have been very loyal to the Manatees, as they had a twelve-year relationship with the club. Prior to that PDC, the Brewers had deals with Stockton, Mudville and High Desert of the California League.

“Having met with the Brewers, and in looking at their system, we are confident that we are getting an organization that is loaded with young, talented prospects that we feel will enhance our program” said Carolina Mudcats President and Majority Owner Steve Bryant. “We are very impressed with the Brewers in that they share with us a desire to develop young talent at the Minor League level.”

Brewers General Manager David Stearns stated that”The Brewers are excited to announce a partnership with Steve Bryant and the Carolina Mudcats. The organization is committed to developing young talent and we strongly believe that the Mudcats will help us achieve that goal. We look forward to working with our new partner in the Carolina League.”

This edition of the Mudcats replaced the original Carolina Mudcats that played in the AA Southern League. The AA team moved to Pensacola in 2012 and was replaced by the Kinston Indians  (A Advanced Carolina League) that moved to Zebulon NC to replace the AA Mudcats and adopted that name. Next year Kinston will have affiliated baseball again as the Texas Rangers have moved their California League franchise to the Carolina League.

This signing leaves the Colorado Rockies as the only team that has not signed a PDC with an A Advanced team yet. Since the Mariners have taken the place of the Rockies in Modesto, the only A Advanced club that is left to sign a deal with is the Lancaster JetHawks of the California League.
