After three convincing victories with double digits, Kingdom of the Netherlands did not go the easy way this time. It took them until the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game after Germany had taken an early lead. The German pitching did fairly well as they kept the Dutch limited to “only” five runs.

Germany  3  –  5  Kingdom of the Netherlands

Germany took an early 2 run lead in the top of the first inning when Chris Howard smashed a 2-2 offering of Mike Bolsenbroek over the left field fence with Max Boldt on board. For 4.5 innings Germany’s Jonathan Eisenhuth kept the Dutch offense at bay.
But in the fifth inning Dashenko Ricardo cut Germany’s lead in half when he hit a solo homerun to left field.

Germany came close to extend their lead in the top of the sixth when Kevin Kelly took the mound in relief of Mike Bolsenbroek. But with Max Boldt on third and Chris Howard at first, Jendrick Speer struck out for the final out of the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Jonathan Eisenhuth was replaced by Enorbel Marquez.
Marquez immediately gave up a double to Randolph Oduber. When Yurendell de Caster singled to rightfield, Oduber scored the game tying run. After Kalian Sams doubled to center field, Kingdom of the Netherlands got runners in scoring position. Dashenko Ricardo cleared the bases with a single to right center field.

Germany would cut the Dutch lead in half in the top of the eighth inning. Marcel Jimenez hit a lead off single towards third base, a 2-2 offering of Tom de Blok. A sac bunt by Lukas Jahn advanced Jimenez to second base. When Max Boldt hit a 6-3 ground out, Jimenez advanced to third before he scored on Chris Howard’s single to short.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning, Christian Diaz scored when Dudley Leonora hit into a force out at second base.

Loek van Mil took the mound in the top of the ninth and retired the German side for the save. Kevin Kelly earned the win as he pitched an inning in relief in which he gave up two hits and fanned two.
Enorbel Marquez took the loss. In one inning of relief, he gave up three runs on four hits and struck out one.

Best hitter for Kingdom of the Netherlands was Dashenko Ricardo, who went 2 for 3 with a homerun, three RBI and a run scored.

A solid win for the Dutch even though it was not a walk over like in the previous three games.
