France Int’l Baseball Tournament: Dutch win with double digits again

Afbeeldingsresultaat voor Yoshida challenge 2016
After the Dutch won the first two games with double digits and France lost their first two games one might think that this game would be an easy win for the Kingdom of the Netherlands. And indeed the Dutch finished the game in seven mercy rule innings.

France  0  –  10  Kingdom of the Netherlands

After not being able for almost a year, Rob Cordemans had his third outing since his return from the DL. Tonight Cordemans had a superb outing that lasted four innings. He gave up only one hit and struck out seven.

After having scored a run in the first inning and one in the third, the Dutch started to walk away in the fifth inning. With two outs Sander Paap drew a walk and advanced to third on Christopher Garia’s single to right field. When catcher Amin Touahri tried to pick off Garia from first he made a throwing error on which Sander Paap could score and Garia could score all the way from first base.

In the sixth inning Kingdom of the Netherlands scored four more runs. Owen Ozainich, who pitched five innings, was replaced by Thomas Langlois. With two outs and runners in scoring position, Dudley Leonora got on base on a throwing error by third baseman Maxime Lefevre. Leonora advanced to third and Gilmer Lampe and Gianison Boekhoudt scored on the error. After Nick Urbanus doubled home Dudley Leonora, Urbanus scored himself on a single hit by Sander Paap.

The Dutch would finish the game in the seventh as Gilmer Lampe doubled home Yurendell de Caster and Kevin Moesquit drove in Gianison Boekhoudt with a sac fly to center field.

Until the seventh inning France only got one hit. But in the seventh Ernesto Martinez singled to left field and advanced Felix Brown to second. A passed ball allowed both runners to advance a base but the French would not get any further.

Orlando Yntema pitched two innings for the win. He walked one and struck out two.
Owen Ozanich took the loss. In five innings he gave up four runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks. He also struck out three.

Best hitter for the Netherlands was Gianison Boekhoudt as he went 2 for 3 with a triple, a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Due to this win, team Kingdom of the Netherlands  will face Germany in the finals tomorrow.
