Carlton Daal gets invitation to Spring Training
Carlton Daal, the 22-year old shortstop from Curacao has been invited to the 2016 Spring Training in the Cactus League, by the Cincinnati Reds
The shortstop of team Kingdom of the Netherlands earned an award for being the best shortstop at the recent Premier 12 tournament. So far Daal wasn’t known for his defense but merely for his offense. He proved the latter during the Premier 12 as he batted .348 for the tournament, being one of the best batters of his team.
But during the Premier 12 tournament, Daal proved to have made major improvements on the defensive side as well, when he played a perfect tournament.
It will be the third time for Carlton that he will be part of the Reds’ MLB Spring Training camp in Goodyear Arizona as a non-roster invitee, but it is the first time that he gets an invitation this early.
Carlton Daal played last season at A Advanced level in the Florida State League for the Daytona Tortugas. With that team he batted a decent .270 with an OBP of .311 and a Slugging percentage of .286.
In 112 games (53 as a shortstop and 59 at second base), Carlton committed 22 errors resulting in a fielding percentage of .952.
