MLB on goodwill tour in Cuba
As you could read here recently: Cuban baseball is hot. This time MLB will make an effort to improve the relationship between the USA and Cuba even more by visiting the island during a goodwill tour.
MLB will send Joe Torre, Dave Winfield and MLBPA executive director Tony Clark to Cuba on a goodwill tour. It will be the first time since 1999, when the Orioles played a game in Havana vs the Cuban national team.
The aforementioned persons will be accompanied by several current MLB players. Part of this tour will be an opening press conference at Hotel Nacional, featuring Torre, Winfield and the participating players; children’s clinics at Estadio Latinoamericano in Havana and Estadio Victoria de Giron in Matanzas and a charity event in conjunction with Caritas Cubana.
All this must be seen as a attempt to convince Cuba to play another set of
games vs an MLB team.
MLB wants to send an MLB team to Cuba in Spring 2016. Several teams have applied for the job. Rob Manfred held a lottery that the Tampa Bay Rays won.
