Italian Baseball in trouble
Italian Baseball 2015.
While the Italian team is preparing in Taiwan for the upcoming Premier 12 tournament, two clubs of the Italian Professiional League IBL, Parma and Nettuno are in financial trouble.
Journalists of the Italian website Baserball.it have mentioned the financial problems that surrounds the two former powerhouses of Italian baseball.
ASD Baseball Parma would be dissolved in it’s current shape. A group of fans want to let the club participate in the 2016![]()
IBL season with a new name: 1949 Parma. One of the initiators of this plan is manager of the youth department of the club, Paolo Zbogar. Both the chairman and the vice-chairman of the club will step back.
Also Nettuno BC is facing financial difficulties. The problems are even so bad that during the play offs, the club had to
move to Rome to play it’s home games because the city of Nettuno had denounced the rental contract of the stadium because the club could not afford to pay the rent. The general manager will leave the club and several players will be put onto the players market. Two players already found a new club.
Since the inaugural season in 1951, the club has won eighteen Italian titles and six European Cups.
Once again this proves that baseball clubs that live beyond their means, will pay the price eventually. Nevertheless it would be a shame if these two former powerhouses of Italian baseball would disappear. If you read this, you can wonder if there is enough support for professional baseball in Europe.
Let’s hope that the rest of the IBL will be able to survive.
