Classy move by Red Sox players
Yesterday was the last day that Don Orsillo was in the broadcast booth of NESN, the New England Sports Network.
Earlier this year NESN announced that Orsillo would not come back as their TV announcer of Red Sox games.
Tricky part in this is that the Network asked Orsillo to tweet that the parting was mutual. Of course Orsillo declined.
It didn’t take long before Orsillo found a new job. He will be in the TV broadcast booth of the San Diego Padres next year.
But the players paid some tribute to the 46-year old play-by-play announcer as they turned to the booth and waved their caps to him.

“We’re happy to do it just to show him a little bit of love and respect for what he’s done for us,” Brock Holt told the Boston Herald. “He’s just fun man. He doesn’t take his job too seriously but he’s really good at it. He loves what he does and he’s really good at it. Just being around him he’s a good person. We’re going to miss him and everyone that watches him on TV is going to miss his voice calling the games for sure.”
Orsillo thanked the Boston faithful for their support as the Boston fans twittered their disapproval when it was announced that Orsillo would not return. They even started a petition that received over 62,000 signatures.
During the game a plane flew over Progressive Field in Cleveland with a banner saying: “Red Sox nation loves Don Orsillo.”
Probably, as a Yankee fan this is a no-no, but I loved to listen to Orsillo. He has a lot of knowledge about the game. Perhaps a reason to watch a bit more of Padres games next season. 😉
