Ivan Nova’s first rehab outing hopeful

Monday, Ivan Nova pitched in his first rehab outing after being placed on the DL last season due to TJ surgery.

With the Tampa Yankees he took on the Jupiter Hammerheads (Marlins A Advanced affiliate of the Florida State League).

Tampa Yankees play-by-play broadcaster Nick Flammia tweeted that Nova’s fastball reached 94 mph in the first inning. (For his career, Nova averages 92.7 mph on his fastball so far in his career).

Nova pitched 4.2 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits. He struck out three and didn’t give up a walk.
Perhaps he could have lasted longer if the Yankees would not have made four errors. Nova made one of those errors himself as he made a throwing error during a pick off attempt.

Nova threw 72 pitches, 55 of them for strikes. He left the game with a 2-1 lead but eventually the Tampa Yankees lost 3-2.
