Yankees pitching news
Masahiro Tanaka took another positive step in his rehab after being put on the DL with a mild strain in his right forearm. Last night he threw a 31-pitch bullpen session in Yankee Stadium. The bullpen session served as a preparation for his scheduled start with the RailRiders in Pawtucket. If that start will go well, Tanaka will be called up by the Yankees probably.
A quote from MLB.com: “I feel pretty good about where I am now; I feel pretty strong,” Tanaka said through an interpreter. “If that were the case, I should be ready to go. Basically, I’m going to go where the team wants me to go.”
The Yankees have called up phenom Jacob Lindgren. Lindgren was drafted in 2014 and in this short time he worked his way through the Yankees’ farm system very quickly. He was at AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre when he received the phone call.
Lindgren has been used as reliever most of the time, but in his college years, he has pitched a year as a starting pitcher. His numbers as a reliever were significantly better than his numbers as a starter. At AAA he kept his opponents to a .200 batting average and sported a 1.23 ERA in 22 innings of work.
To make room for Lindgren, Branden Pinder was sent down to AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
It remains to be seen if Lindgren can add some pop to the troubled bullpen. What was heralded as a light out bullpen proves to be a headache for manager Joe Girardi. The part that is the best part of the bullpen is the set up man and the closer.
