Dutch Hoofdklasse, Sunday May 17
On day three of round five, the following games were scheduled: Vaessen Pioniers – L&D Amsterdam Pirates; Pronto DSS – Curacao Neptunus; UVV – Corendon Kinheim; Mampaey the Hawks – HCAW.
No big surprises except one today.
Vaessen Pioniers – L&D Amsterdam Pirates 7 – 5
In Hoofddorp Vaessen Pioniers hosted L&D Amsterdam Pirates in the rubber games of this series. Pirates took a 1-0 lead in
the top of the fourth inning but Pioniers answered in the very same inning. With two outs already, the team started a rally when Kevin Weijgertse doubled down the left field line followed by a single hit by Max Draijer that drove in Weijgertse. Then Christian Fernandes singled to left field to put runners on first and second. When Danny Rombley singled to left field, Max Draijer scored from second base and Christian Fernandes and Danny Rombley advanced an extra base on the throw towards home plate. Dirk van ‘t Klooster drove in the final two runs of the fourth inning when he singled throug the right side of the single.
Pirates countered again in the next inning as they scored three runs. Elton Koeiman gave up two walks to start the inning before he was replaced by Reggie Bomberg. Bomberg started his outing with giving up a triple to Nick Urbanus that drove in Michael Duursma and Roelie Henrique. A sac fly by Remco Draijer drove in Nick Urbanus for the game tying run. But in the bottom of the fifth, Pioniers took a 5-4 lead and never looked back as they scored two more runs in the sixth inning. With a rally in the seventh inning Pirates could add one more run but that was about it. Despite having runners on third and second
in the eighth Pirates failed to add more runs to their score.
Reggie Bomberg pitched two innings in relief and earned the win. He gave up two runs on two hits, and struck out one. Kyle Ward took the loss for L&D Amsterdam Pirates. Ward gave up five runs (four earned) on eleven hits and he fanned four.
Mark Jan Moorman went 3 for 4 with a run scored and a walk. Roelie Henrique went 1 for 3 with two runs scored, two walks and one strikout.
UVV – Corendon Kinheim 1 – 5
No surprise in this game. Kinheim slowly walked away to a 5-1 victory with two runs in the second inning, two runs in the third and one run in the fourth. UVV In the sixth, Gilmer Lampe led off with a single through the left side of the infield. He advanced to second base on a ground out 5-3 hit by Tony Enos. Gilmer Lampe stole third base before Norbert Jongerius drove him in on a single to left center field.
David Bergman lasted eight full innings for the win and gave up one run on seven hits. He walked two and fanned two. Jurjen van Zijl was tabbed with the loss. He pitched 3.1 innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits and struck out one hitter. Sven van der Sanden was the best hitter for Kinheim. He went 3 for 5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. 
Gilmer Lampe went 2 for 4 for UVV with a double and a run scored.
Mampaey the Hawks – HCAW 9 – 13
In this series, home field advantage did not mean a thing. In a wild game, HCAW scored thirteen runs in the first four innings
before their bats turned silent. Jarreau led of the game for HCAW with a triple to center field and scored on a single down the left field line hit by Raoull Kortstam. HCAW would score four runs in each of the next three innings. Mampaey the Hawks scored a run in the second, two in the third, one in the fifth and two in the seventh. In the eighth the Hawks rallied for a big inning. Julian Goins lef of the eighth with a single, followed by a walk drawn by Tim Roodenburg. Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch thrown by Bob Klaarenbeek. Ruben Raap drove in Goins with a single towards left field and Tim Roodenburg advanced to third base on the hit. A 6-3 ground out hit by Odion Gouverneur and a triple by Stephen Henson drove in Roodenburg and Raap for the second and third run in that inning. Steven van Groningen shut the door and didn’t allow more runs in the ninth. Maickel Rietel earned the win after five innings in which he allowed four runs (two
earned) on five hits. Rietel walked three and struck out five. Evan Simons took the loss for Mampaey the Hawks. In two innings, he gave up seven runs on eight hits and struck out two.
Raoull Kortstam went 2 for 2 with an RBI, two runs scored and a walk. The best hitter for the Hawks was Julian Goins, who went 4 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
Pronto DSS – Curacao Neptunus 2 – 1
In a close game, DSS managed to surprise everyone today. In the fifth inning they took a lead over Neptunus. Sven
Jongejans led off with a single to left center field. Jongejans advanced to second base when Tommy van der Sanden laid down a sacrifice bunt. A throwing error by third baseman Railly Legito made Mark Smit reach first base safely and and allowed him to advance to second base. Sven Jongejans scored on the error. A double by Lex Leijenaar down the right field line drove in Mark Smit for the 2-0 lead. In the eighth inning Shurman Marlin led off with a single to left field. Then Max Ploegstra replaced Tim Halderman. Ploegstra immediately gave up a double to Shaldimar Daantji. An error by left fielder Ryan Miner allowed Marlin to score the only run for Curacao Neptunus.
Tim Halderman lasted seven innings for the win. He allowed one unearned run on four hits, walked one and struck out two.
Kenny van den Branden took the loss. In 6.2 innings he allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits. He walked three and struck out six. Lex Leijenaar was the best hitter for DSS as he went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Best hitter for Neptunus was Dwayne Kemp. He collected two hits out of four at bats and he stole a base.
