Dutchies in the Major Leagues, May 5 2015

After a 3-1 loss vs the Blue Jays in Toronto, the Yankees bounced back. In the previous game, knuckle ball pitcher R.A. Dickey was nearly unhittlable. Last night the Yankees did a lot better at the plate as they collected eleven basehits.
Michael Pineda was masterful once again. In eight innings he gave up five hits, one walk and struck out six. But when David Carpenter took over in the top of the ninth, the Blue Jays started to hit. Carpenter gave up a lead off homerun to Russell Martin before retiring the next two batters. But three hitters later the score was 6-3 all of a sudden. That signalled the end for Carpenter, who was replaced by Andrew Miller. Miller walked Jose Bautista before retiring Devon Travis for the final out of the game.
Didi Gregorius went 1 for 4 with an RBI single. He struck out once, left one runner on base and also made a helluva play in the second inning with a nearly impossible throw.

Shelby Miller pitched a complete game shut out for the Braves, who beat the Phillies 9-0. Andrelton Simmons went 1 for 3 with a single and a walk. He scored twice, once on a homrun hit by Freddy Freeman. Andrelton was also the initiator of a 6-4-3 double play.

In a game in which the wore 1975 throw back jerseys and caps, the Red Sox won 2-0 in Tampa Bay. Xander Bogaerts struck out and walked in three plate appearances and left a runner on base. Xander made the out at second base when Evan Longoria wasn’t sharp on the bases as Mookie Betts caught a fly ball and bowled him off second base.
