Yankees and Dutchies in the Majors, Tuesday April 14
The Yankees lost to the Orioles 4-3 and C.C. Sabathia gave up all the runs that the O’s scored. To me the most important thing was that Didi Gregorius got a basehit out of three at bats and that he scored a run. Unfortunately he committed one fielding error (his first of the season) but he was also the starting point of a 6-4-3 double play. In fact the Yankees weren’t outhit by the O’s; Baltimore got seven while the Yanks had six. But the lame performance by C.C. Sabthia cost them the game. To me it was a calculated loss.
Andrelton Simmons didn’t get a basehit in the 8-2 loss vs the Marlins. He was sent back with a K to the dugout once and he left three runners at base. But he was the sparkplug of another 6-4-3 double play and he showed once again why he has won two straight Gold Gloves.
Joe Maddon brought in Pedro Strop to keep the Reds from scoring any more runs in the ninth. He did this in a perfect fashion by striking out Marlon Byrd. With this performance he kept his ERA at the magical 0.00. Unfortunately for the Cubs fans, their team did not score any runs in the ninth, so they lost to Cincy 2-3.
