Yankees and Dutchies in MLB, Friday April 10
Once again, several Dutchies showed their defensive capabilities. It shows once more that the Dutch have a shortstop overload.
The Red Sox needed two games to beat, what many call “the Nursery home. The Bosox took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and extended it with two runs in the top of the sixth. Nathan Eovaldi was pulled after the Red Sox scored the two runs in the sixth. Eovaldi showed two faces yesterday. At one hand he had very nasty stuff, on the other, he had some control issues, considering his two wild pitches.
In the bottom of the sixth the Yankees got within one run of Boston when Gregorio Petit scored on a sharp ground ball hit by Alex Rodriguez. A walk, drawn by MarkTeixeira loaded the bases and Brett Gardner scored the second run on a sac fly by Brian McCann. And then in the ninth, the Yankees tied the game in dramatic fashion. With two outs and only two strikes away from the victory, Edward Mujica gave up a homerun to Chase Headly, who slammed the ball into the right field upper deck, so free baseball was needed. A real nail biter would unfold in which both team scored a run in the sixteenth and in the eighteenth inning before Boston would score the game winner in the nineteenth.
Xander Bogaerts saw the ball well, despite leaving three runners behind. He went 4 for 8 and scored a run. He also struck out once and drew a walk. Xander made a smooth play in the bottom of the eleventh inning and threw the ball towards Pablo Sandoval for the inning ending force out at third base.
Didi Gregorius entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and still got six at bats in this ridiculous long game. Didi went 1 for 6, struck out once and left one behind. Didi made a nice stop in the eleventh inning that was the start of a 6-4-3 inning ending double play.
Despite the 12-5 spanking by the Blue Jays, Orioles’ Jonathan Schoop saw the ball well as he went 2 for 4 with a solo dinger that cleared the fence in left center field by a wide margin and a single. He left two runners on base.
Matt den Dekker went 0 for 1 as he entered the game as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning and popped out towards shortstop Freddy Galvis. The Nationals lost to the Phillies 4-1.
The Braves stayed perfect as they beat the Mets 5-3. Andrelton Simmons went 1 for 4 and scored a run. In the bottom of the second he led off with a double and then advanced to third on a sac bunt by Eric Stults. Eventually Simmons was thrown out at the plate as Cameron Maybin hit a grounder to first baseman Michael Cuddyer, who threw the ball towards catcher Travis d’Arnaud. The one run that Andrelton scored was after he got on base on a fielder’s choice and was driven in from second on a single by Phil Gosselin.
In the top of the third Andrelton showed his reach and his arm strength when he threw out Travis d’Arnaud.
