Yankees and Dutchies in Spring Training, Wednesday March 11
Chris Capuano’s Spring Training start lasted exactly seven pitches and two outs. While stepping on first base when he covered it for the second out, he strained his right quadriceps. Capuano was offered a one-year five million dollar deal to be the fourth or fifth starter in the rotation.
Another oldie connected for his first homerun of the Spring Training. With a 3-1 count Alex Rodriguez blasted the ball over the left field fence. Brett Gardner , Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran also drove in some RBIs. In general this game was marked by inept pitching on the Yankees’ side which lead to a 10-6 loss vs the Red Sox.
The other team from New York took on the Marlins and lost 7-4. Matt den Dekker went 0 for 2, walked once, struck out twice and left a runner on base.
In a 6-2 loss vs the Cardinals, Braves’ prospect Ozhaino Albies drew two walks after he entered the game as a defensive substitution in the eighth inning. In his first plate appearance he got four straight balls for the walk and in his second plate appearance in then ninth inning he also got a base on balls after only four pitches.
In the bottom of the fifth, Shawn Zarraga entered the game as a defensive substitution. In his sole at bat he popped out when he tried to lay down a bunt. The Dodgers fell to the Cubs 4-3.
