After the previous article on the PDC extension between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New Hampshire FisherCats there is more to tell about PDC extensions.
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (gawd I hate that name), have extended the Player Development Contract with the Salt Lake Bees through 2018. The teams have been in a close relationship for fourteen years now.
The Pacific Coast League (AAA) affiliate joined the Angels organization in 2001. Back then the Angels were still called Anaheim Angels and were owned by the Disney Company. The Salt Lake Bees were named the Salt Lake Stingers in those days. In the years before 2001 the team was named Salt Lake Buzz. But due to a lawsuit filed by Georgia Tech, the team changed its name into Stingers. Georgia Tech’s mascot is named Buzz.
The team came to Salt Lake in 1994 when the Portland Beavers moved from Oregon to Utah.
The Salt Lake Bees play in Smith’s Ballpark. This ballpark has one of the most exciting backdrops in baseball.
Some notable players that played in Salt Lake City in their minor league days are, Mike Trout, Jered Weaver and Howie Kendrick.
