2014 World Series: game 6
vs
This year’s World Series will end in the way that every World Series should end: With a seventh game.
In a must win situation, trailing 3-2 in games, the Kansas City Royals kept their cool and flexed their muscles in game six as they out hit and out scored San Francisco.
Yordano Ventura went seven shutout innings in which he allowed only three hits, struck out four but gave up five walks though. Overall the Giants collected six hits and the Royals fifteen.
The first inning of the game started promising for San Francisco’s starter Jake Peavy. He gave up a hit and a walk but got out of the inning without further damage. But the next inning would be dramatic as the Royals jumped on him.
The Royals started the second inning with singles by Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez and a double by Mike Moustakas on which Gordon scored the opening run, before Jake Peavy struck out Omar Infante. Then Alcides Escobar hit something in between a full swing and a bunt towards first baseman Brandon Belt. Because the base wasn’t taken over Escobar was safe on the play and loaded the bases. A single by Nori Aoki drove in Perez and resulted in Jake Peavey being pulled with the bases loaded. But Peavy’s replacement, Yusmeiro Petit, couldn’t stop the Royals from having a big inning. The Royals scored two more runs when Lorenzo Cain singled to center feld on a soft fly ball. Doubles by Eric Hosmer and Billy Butler drove in four more runs to make it 7-0 for the Royals.
A ground rule double by Lorenzo Cain in the third inning, a double by Alcides Escobar in the fifth and a solo homerun by Mike Moustatkas in the seventh sealed San Francisco’s fate. Finals score 10-0.
Lorenzo Cain was the best hitter for the Royals but also had the most impact. he was responsible for three runs, going 2 for 3 with two walks.
In my humble opinion, the picture below says it all. This KC team was more eager to win this game.
