Hoofdklasse/Overgangsklasse play downs 2014: Game 4
vs
With DSS leading the play down series 2-1, Mampaey the Hawks stretched it to a decisive fifth game.
In Haarlem, DSS took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning but The Hawks countered with two runs in the top of the second.
The third inning was a very productive one for both teams. Mampaey The Hawks put runners on first and second when Kevin Moesquit laid down a sac bunt to advance both runners one base. When Berry van Donselaar singled up through the middle, both runners scored to make it 4-1. Berry van Donselaar advanced to second base when Bob de Bruijn was hit by a pitch. Donselaar scored when Steven Wharwood hit a double down the rightfield line; Bob de Bruijn advanced to third base on this hit. A single and a sac fly drove in two more runs to give The Hawks a comfortable 7-1 lead.
But DSS didn’t want to give up. Mitchell Dautzenberg led off in the bottom of the third with a triple down the right field line. A walk and a balk by Jose Moreno put Ryan Miner on second base and allowed Dautzenberg to score. Sven Jongejans drew another walk. A single by Tino van Erk loaded the bases. Mitchell Koot’s single only drove in Ryan Miner. Tim Roodenburg then hit a sac fly towards right field to drive in Sven Jongejans. Another sac fly by Seb Visser allowed Tino van Erk to score the fifth run for DSS.
Mampaey The Hawks managed to score three more runs (one in the fifth, one in the seventh and one in the ninth).
Jose Moreno and Kevin van Veen kept DSS in check for the remainder of the game. Both combined for five runs on eight hits, five walks and three strikeouts.
DSS’ manager Frank Koot, sent three pitchers to the mound. Starter Jorn van Ingen pitched 2.1 innings in which he allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks. He also hit a batter with a pitch. Rik Geestman pitched the bulk of the game (5.2 innings). He allowed two runs on six hits and fanned two. Max Ploegstra pitched in the final inning and he allowed one run on one hit and he gave up a walk.
Best hitter for Mampaey The Hawks was Gregory Trinidad; he went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three runs batted in.
