European Cup 2014: Results of Day Four

Belgian starter Cedric Desmedt threw a 143 pitch complete game that was won by the Red Hawks 5-0. This time the victim was Great Britain. Belgium scored five runs (one unearned) on six hits. Desmedt allowed three hits, walked four, fanned six, hit two batters with a pitch and threw one wild pitch.

The last two days Croatia was the punchbag of group B, but today they did the same with Russia. The Croatians beat the Russians 10-3. Croatian starter James Summers pitched a complete game as well in which he threw 128 pitches.

Despite scoring the game’s first two runs, Sweden was never a match for France who beat the Scandinavians 3-8.

When I called Croatia the punchbag of the tournament, I totally forgot about Greece. So far their opponents outscored them by ten runs or more per game. Same thing vs the Czech Republic who only needed six innings to humiliate Greece; 17-2. The Greek pitching combined for seventeen runs (of which eleven earned) on eightteen hits. Petr Minarik pitched six full innings in which he gave up two runs (one earned) on six hits and in which he walked two and struck out four.

Germany took a 1-0 lead over Italy in the top of the second and could dream about a victory for two innings. But in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Italians scored three runs and added two more in the fifth.
German pitcher Markus Solbach was tabbed with the loss. He allowed all five Italian runs. Michael J. Colla pitched five innings for the win.
