2025 Belgian Division One: July 5, Match of The Day

A complete round but one game was played today in the Belgian Division One. The one game that caught the eye today was the second game of the double header between the Namur Angels and the Deurne Spartans.

Namur Angels 15 – 2 Deurne Spartans

A sensational victory for the Namur Angels over the Deurne Spartans in the second game of today’s double header. The team that is near the bottom of the standings routed the number two.

In the first game the one-time Belgian champions did not stand a chance against the five-time Belgian champions, but in the second game it was the other way around.

With runners in scoring position and no outs, Daniel Do Carmo Barros hit a 6-3 groundout that allowed Martin Nicolay to score the opening run in the first inning. Lucas Heymans followed with a single to right field that allowed Arthur Heymans to score.

Deurne came very close to tie the game as it loaded the bases with one out, but Justin Rishi Nathasingh retired the next two batters on strikeouts.

In the second inning, with two outs and runners in scoring position, three singles and a double drove in four runs for the Angels.

In the next three innings, Namur didn’t score but Deurne managed to get on the board as it scored twice on a double by Daniel Bustamante in the fourth inning.

In the sixth and the seventh inning, the Namur bats woke up. Also helped by some defensive miscues, they scored nine runs in the final two innings as the game was a seven-inning mercy rule affair

Justin Rishi Nathasingh pitched a complete game (seven innings) in which he allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks and struck out nine for the win. Elvis Joel Polanco Machado took the loss. In six innings, he allowed ten runs (six earned) on twelve hits as he struck out three.

Arthur Heymans was the best hitter for the Namur Angels as he went 4 for 5 with a double, four RBI and four runs scored.

Another sensational result was the third victory of the Braine Black Rickers this season. In the first game of the double header against the Merchtem Cats, the debutant beat the Cats with a handball score of 26 – 16.
