2023 Confederation Cup: Hoboken Clinches First Victory
On day two of the 2023 Confederation Cup, the Hoboken Pioneers didn’t have any problems with their opponent. The Belgian champions needed only seven innings to brush the VIenna Wanderers aside.

Hoboken Pioneers 13 – 2 Vienna Wanderers
In a very lopsided game, Wanderers starting pitcher Lukas Inmann gave up nine runs, of which six (!) were unearned. As a result, the race was already run after four innings.
Hoboken opened the score in the first inning. A double by Drew Janssen and a 6-3 groundout allowed Pioneers to score two runs. In the next inning, Pioneers stepped up a bit more. Three errors led to two runs. Lino Ballardini got on base thanks to a fielding error, scored on a throwing error that allowed Jason Jie Sam Foek to get on base. Another fielding error allowed Pioneers to get runners on the corners, before Lucas Rizzi hit an RBI single through the left side. Drew Janssen then followed with a single through the left side that drove in Benjamin Goffaux. Dennis de Quint followed with an RBI single to deep left field.
In the bottom of the third inning the Vienna Wanderers got on the board. With one out, Fabian Hirnschal doubled to left field, followed by a triple, hit by Jakob Lazar that drove in Hirnschal for the first Austrian run. A 4-3 groundout allowed Lazar to score the second run for the Wanderers. Unfortunately for the Austrians, this was all they were capable of.
With a three-run fourth and a four-run fifth Pioneers reached the final score. In the last two innings, the Belgians didn’t score anymore. 
Kevin Desmedt earned the win as he lasted five innings, in which he gave up two runs on three hits, as he struck out seven. Lukas Inmann took the loss. In 3.1 innings, he gave up the aforementioned nine runs on seven hits and two walks and struck out one.
The best hitter for Hoboken Pioneers was Dennis de Quint as he went 2 for 3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
