European Cup 2014: Results of Day Five
On the fifth day of the European Cup, there was almost one surprise.
Belgium came back from behind in the seventh inning after trailing 3-0 and took the lead in the eight when Sebastiaan Vandesompele scored the go ahead run. But France fought back in the ninth when they scored two runs for the 5-4 walk off victory and claimed a spot in the next round.
For once Greece was the team that scored ten runs in a game. Their oppenent, Croatia, didn’t score a run and the game was over after seven innings.
Great Britain wasn’t a match for Italy, who beat the islanders by 1-13. Worth mentioning is the fact that Alex Liddi hit three homeruns in one game.
Spain beat the Czech Republic 9-2 and became runner up in group B. You can’t say that the Czechs were outhit by the Spaniards, but Spain was a lot more efficient at bat.
Sweden took a 2-0 lead vs Germany in the first inning, but after the Germans scored seven runs in one inning, their victory never was in danger, despite the four run rally in the ninth by the Scandinavians.
