Yankees and Dutchies at Spring Training

Yesterday, Didi Gregorius debuted as a Yankee. Joe Girardi put him in the lead off spot to be sure he would get some at bats vs left hander Kevin Slowey. Didi’s stats of last year show that he had some trouble with hitting lefties. In his frst at bat he hit a fly out to left field. In his second at bat he battled his way to a walk. On the defensive side he didn’t have much to do.

Most of the attention went out to Alex Rodriguez who got his first basehit of the Spring Training in his first at bat. Let the attention go out to him. In that way Didi Gregorius can stay out of the media attention and focus on his hitting and development without being distracted by the New York press.

Nathan Eovaldi pitched 2 innings in which he allowed one run on two hits and he struck out one batter. The Yankees have a lot of patience with this kid. Michael Kay of YES said that he only controls his fastball and that Larry Rothschild is working with him to learn some other pitches as well.

The Yankees fell to the Phillies 3-1.

The Mets took on the Braves and beat the team from Atlanta 8-2. On the side of the Braves, Andrelton Simmons didn’t play. The Mets’ Matt den Dekker went 1 for 3 with a single to left field in the third inning. He also struck out twice. and left two runners on base.

The Rockies fell 6-2 to the Diamondbacks.
Roger Bernadina entered the game for the Rockies in the fifth inning and went 0 for 3 with a strikeout. But despite not getting a hit, he drove in a run for the Rockies when he hit into a force out at second. He recorded one out as center fielder.

No other Dutchies saw action in the other games.
