Belgian Division One Transactions For 2026: Brussels Kangaroos
In the fourth episode of “Belgian Division One Transactions For 2026” we pay attention to the team that earned a promotion to Division One in 2025: The Brussels Kangaroos.

The Brussels Kangaroos are back in Belgium’s baseball Walhalla after a dominant season in Division Two.
Most positive part of the transactions for the Kangaroos is that no one is leaving the club, but several players will be added.

A familiar name will return to the Kangaroos. Ken Spurgeon spent the past three seasons with the Hoboken Pioneers. In 2025, Ken was the regular back stop in Hoboken. He batted .292 and posted a .972 fielding percentage.
Another familiar name that will return to Brussels is Mauro van Mook. He was part of the Deurne Spartans’ roster, but he played with Oosterhout Twins in the Netherlands where he did rather well. Since his name doesn’t appear at the transactions of the Dutch Hoofdklasse, one can assume, he will stay with Twins but will be available for the Kangaroos at the end of the Dutch season.
With Jade Thorne another player will return to Brussels. Thorne played with the Kangaroos in 2022 when he batted a solid .407. Last season, with Braine Black Rickers, Jade batted a whopping .514.
Next to Jade Thorne, two more players of the Braine Black Rickers will reinforce the ranks of the Kangaroos: Luis Veras and Johanderson Freitez. Next to being a solid hitter (.324 with the Black Rickers in 2025), Johanderson can also pitch, although his numbers in 2025 were not very impressive.
Kieran Gibson will leave Hoboken Pioneers to join the Kangaroos. According to his Instagram account, he masters a 93 mph fastball. Even though he was on the roster of the Pioneers, he only pitched three scoreless innings in 2025.
Another international player will be Oliver Scherr. Oliver is a Swiss national team player who is studying in Brussels. In 2024, Oliver was the best pitcher of the NLB (Switzerland’s second division).
Beside these added players, the team will contain mainly youth players.
I would like to thank manager Cedric Desmedt for the information that was needed to write this blog post. Cedric will keep pitching for the Kangaroos, but he is recovering from an injury he suffered during last year’s European Championship.
