2025 Belgian Division One: Promotion/Relegation Series

With the main focus on the playoffs, we may not forget there is more baseball going on. Even though one round needs to be played tomorrow in Division Two, it is clear who will advance to the promotion/relegation series.

With the bottom four teams playing against relegation, it was clear in advance that the Braine Black Rickers would be the team that was destined to play in the promotion/relegation series. The club managed to win only three games in the regular season and in the bottom four competition, it could not add another win.

In the playoffs of Division Two, the Brussels Kangaroos were vastly dominant. Also in the regular season, the club was the strongest by far as it hoarded thirteen wins against one loss. And now, with still one round to be played tomorrow in the playoffs, the Kangaroos are 8-0 with a three game lead over the farm team of the Brasschaat Braves. So with two more games to be played tomorrow, the Kangaroos cannot be overtaken anymore. Their dominance is not strange as the Kangaroos have a set of dominant starting pitchers in Cedric Desmedt and Joe Spurgeon Mizunoya. Desmedt posted a microscopic ERA of 0.67 in the playoffs. Spurgean Mizunoya had an ERA of 1.46.

So this means that the promotion relegation series will be played between the Braine Black Rickers and the Brussels Kangaroos. Next Saturday, September 6, two games of a best-of-three will be played. On September 13, a third game will be played if necessary. The Brussels Kangaroos will have the home field advantage on September 6. The Braine Black Rickers will have the home field advantage on September 13, when that game will be played.

The question remains if these two clubs are willing to play in Division One in 2026. For the Braine Black Rickers 2025 was a tough year after the team earned a promotion. The Brussels Kangaroos voluntarily stepped down to Division Two after the 2022 season. In Kevin Desmedt, they have a pitcher who has proven himself at the highest Belgian level. Joe Spurgeon Mizunoya is still a young kid that hasn’t played in Division One yet.
