U23 European Baseball Championship: Dutch Shove Brits Aside.

A lineup with plenty of American-born players wasn’t able to deny the Netherlands a spot in the final. After a rigid start, the Dutch flexed their muscles and cruised to the win.

U-23 European Baseball Championship 2021

Great Britain  4  –  12  the Netherlands
GBR flagDespite a big score, the British were a pretty gnarly opponent in the first three innings. A two-run dinger gave the British an early lead in the first inning. But the Dutch bounced back immediately. A double by Delano Selassa, drove in two runs and singles by Sheadion Jamanika and Tyriq Kemp drove in a run each, to give the Dutch the lead. It looked like the Dutch walked away in the second inning when a single by Delano Selassa and a bases loaded walk by Tyriq Kemp drove in two more runs. But at that stage of the game, the Brits refused to give up. Partially due to a shaky outing by Naut Kragt and a fielding error, Great Britain loaded the bases before Kennard Dawson singled up the middel to drive in two more runs. But as soon as Kragt was replaced, the British offense stalled.
A big fourth inning sealed the deal. With the bases loaded, the first run of the inning was scored when Tyriq Kemp drew a walk. With the bases still loaded but with one out, Jeandro Tromp singled up the middle to drive in Yurdion Martie and Tyriq Kemp. A double by Julian Rip and some miscues by the British pitcher (a wild pitch and a balk) allowed the Dutch to score two more runs.
Despite having a runner in scoring position in the sixth inning, the Dutch did not add more runs in the remainder of the game.
For the third time in four days, reliever Aaron de Groot earned the win. In 3.2 innings, he allowed one hit and a walk and fanned ten. Mitchell Vom Scheidt took the loss. He lasted only one inning in which he gave up four runs on four hits and a walk and struck out two. NED flag
Tyriq Kemp was the best hitter for the Netherlands. He went 2 for 2 with a double, three RBI and a run scored. Once again Julian Rip proved his value as a leadoff hitter as he got on base three times thanks to two doubles and a single. He drove in one run and scored three times.
