Another Curaçaoan hits Italian top league
Slowly, Italian teams signing players from the Dutch Kingdom isn’t a novelty anymore. Last year, Gilmer Lampe and Kevin Kelly were (one) of the firsts. This year, Jarreau Martina and Alex Rodriguez will join Fortitudo Bologna and today, Parmaclima Parma announced that the team has acquired Curaçaoan Reangelo Beaumont.
The intention of Parma was to hire Venezuelan catcher Victor Grasso but since he didn’t pass the medical tests, the team had to look for another catcher. They found one in Reangelo Beaumont.
Born in Willemstad, Curaçao, Beaumont represented the Caribbean island during the 2017 World Port Tournament in which he helped his team to defeat Cuba as he guided his pitching staff through the game. 2019 won’t be his first year in Italy as he played in the Serie A2, a second-tier league, in 2018 when he represented the Paternò Red Sox, a team that withdrew from the Serie A2 after just two games (both victories). As a result, Beaumont returned to Curaçao where he joined the Wildcats and made it to the FEBOKO (Baseball Federation of Curaçao) championship series that was won by the Santa Maria Pirates. Beaumont ended the season in Curaçao with a batting average of .286.
Born in Curaçao, Beaumont has a Dutch passport, which makes him a citizen of the European Union, so it was easy for Parma to hire him.
