Neptunus ties Holland Series at two

Tonight’s game was exactly the opposite of last Thursday’s one. Rob Cordemans was far from dominant and Diegomar Markwell was a lot more effective than last week. Key to Neptunus’ victory was Pirates’ bullpen that could not stop its offense as Pirates lost 13-4.

After Curaçao Neptunus took a 1-0 lead, L&D Amsterdam Pirates bounced back in the top of the second inning. Three singles, a sac fly and a throwing error by Diegomar Markwell drove in three runs for the Amsterdam based team.

But in the bottom of the second inning, Neptunus inched closer thanks to a run scored on a double by Quentin de Cuba. Rob Cordemans kept Neptunus from scoring in the third inning but had to surrender two more runs in the fourth inning. After 76 pitches he was pulled in favour of Robin Schel. After Schel Kept Neptunus from scoring in the next two innings, things went wrong in the seventh. A walk, a double and a sac fly drove in a run before he was replaced by Maickel Rietel. But Rietel couldn’t stop the offense of Neptunus as they scored one more time in the seventh.

After Pirates inched closer in the eighth inning as it scored a run on a double down the right-field line, things really got ugly for Pirates. The team used four pitchers and except Jan-Willem Geerts, none of them was able to keep Neptunus from scoring. Eventually, the Rotterdam based team scored seven more runs which resulted in a somewhat flattered score.

Diegomar Markwell earned the win. In 6.1 innings he allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk as he struck out three. Rob Cordemans took the loss as he allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits as he struck out one.

Best hitters for Curaçao Neptunus were Dwayne Kemp and Dudley Leonora as both went 4 for 5. Kemp hit a double and Leonora drove in three runs.

After L&D Amsterdam Pirates led the Holland Series by two games over none, the team had the momentum but thanks to this blowout win, Neptunus has regained that momentum and is in the driver’s seat.
