Super 6 2018: Belgium bests Germany in slow game

In one of the slowest games of the tournament, Belgium stayed at the right side of the score vs Germany. Germany came close in the final inning of the game but eventually, their offense fell short as Belgium beat the Germans 7-6.
Germany took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on base hits by Maurice Wilhelm and Kevin Kotowski. But Belgium bounced back in the bottom of the same inning when Dennis de Quint hit a leadoff home run and Tim Veraghtert singled to right field to drive in Steven De Lannoy from second base.
As the game continued, Belgium slowly extended its lead by scoring a run in the third, two in the fifth and two in the seventh. Thomas de Wolf homered in the third inning, Dennis de Quint doubled and Steven De Lannoy singled as both drove in a run in the fifth. In the seventh, Jamie Verheyleweghen doubled to drive in two runs.
But the game wasn’t over with this five-run lead as Germany scored thrice in the top of the eighth inning on a two-run dinger by Maik Ehmcke and on a throwing error by second baseman Benjamin Dille.
In the ninth, Germany would score one more run but Kevin Desmedt shut the door for the first Belgian win of the tournament.
