Tonight, Curaçao Neptunus hosted T&A San Marino. even though the score was rather close, the Neptunus win was never endangered as their pitching was vastly dominant tonight. The Rotterdam based team won 3-0.
Neptunus starting pitcher Orlando Yntema wasn’t as strong as he normally is but he was good enough to keep San Marino from scoring. He needed close to hundred pitches to make it through 5.2 innings in which he gave up three hits and four walks and fanned six.
Even though San Marino had runners in scoring position four times, with runners on third twice, the team never could make the final push that led to a run.
Neptunus, on the other hand, rallied in the fourth inning for two runs. After Benjamin Dille singled and Gianison Boekhoudt drew a walk, Dudley Leonora singled home Benjamin Dille to give Neptunus a 1-0 lead. Shaldimar Daantji followed with a single to right-center field that allowed Boekhoudt to score the second run.
In the seventh, Neptunus scored an insurance run. With the bases loaded, Stijn van der Meer reached on a fielder’s choice that allowed Quentin de Cuba to score from third. Still, with a runner in scoring position, Neptunus failed to deal the decisive blow as Benjamin Dille fouled out to third base for the final out of the inning.
But with Loek van Mil and Berry van Driel in relief, San Marino never became dangerous, despite having a runner on third in the ninth inning.
Orlando Yntema earned the win as Viso Quevedo took the loss. Quevedo lasted six innings in which he gave up two runs on four hits and two walks and struck out two.
Dudley Leonora was the best hitter for Curaçao Neptunus with three hits out of four at-bats with one RBI.
