In a very quick game (1 hour, 35 minutes), the Borgerhout Squirrels bested the Brasschaat Braves 1-0. In a pitching matchup, Brasschaat couldn’t get a grip on Kenny van den Branden’s pitches.
Center fielder Steven de Lannoy led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run to right field. And Kenny van den Branden pitched a complete game shutout in which he gave up only one hit, walked one and struck out six. That was the game in a nutshell. Van den Branden’s opponent, Robin Roevens pitched a solid game as well, but he took the loss as he gave up the solo shot to De Lannoy. Roevens pitched eight frames in which he allowed five hits and a walk and struck out one.
Thanks to this win, the Borgerhout Squirrels are a win away from clinching their second Belgian title.
The Brasschaat Braves could not use their pitcher Ronald Schreurs as he was suspended.
Trevor Czerniawski got the sole hit for the Braves. Steven de Lannoy collected two hits and drove in himself with his solo shot in the first frame.
