Promotion/relegation competition 2017: Pickles UVV close to relegation

In the only game that was played today, as the others were rained out, Pickles UVV took on DSS in Haarlem. DSS beat up UVV and with the loss, the fate of UVV is almost sealed.  If UVV loses tomorrow, the team will move down to the overgangsklasse next year. Also with an UVV win and a Storks win, the stay of UVV in the hoofdklasse is over.

DSS took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and that was enough to win the game. Nevertheless, the team scored seven runs in the third inning and one in the fourth.
Pickles UVV got on the board in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Rodney Daal. For the rest of the game, the team did not get past second base in the first five innings.
But with two outs in the sixth, UVV loaded the bases but Brandon Rijnsbergen grounded out for the final out of the inning.

In the first inning, Timo van Ancum loaded the bases thanks to a fielding error and two walks before he gave up a two-run single to Omar Williams and a sac fly to Tino van Erk. After Van Ancum gave up a bases-loaded walk in the third inning, he was replaced by Kevin van Veen. Two singles, two doubles, and a sac fly drove in six more runs.

In a disastrous sixth inning, UVV’s pitching allowed five more runs to make the result extra worse.

Donny Breek earned the win by pitching 5.2 innings in which he gave up one run on three hits and six walks and struck out four. Timo van Ancum took the loss. In 2.1 innings he gave up seven runs (six earned) on four hits and six walks and struck out three.

Tommy van de Sanden and Omar Williams went 2 for 2. Van de Sanden hit a double, drove in a run and scored twice, Williams also hit a double and drove in three runs.

Even if UVV will win tomorrow, they cannot overtake Storks anymore. The best they can do is get even with the club from The Hague. If both teams will end with the same number of points, there will be a decisive game between the two. The winner will stay in the hoofdklasse.
