Dutch Hoofdklasse, Thursday July 2

On the first day of the fourth round in the second half of the season, the following games were scheduled:

Mampaey the Hawks @ L&D Amsterdam Pirates; Corendon Kinheim @ HCAW, UVV @ Pronto DSS and Vaessen Pioniers @ Curacao Neptunus.

Three of the four games were ended without having played the full nine innings, thanks to the curfew rule.

Mampaey the Hawks @ L&D Amsterdam Pirates  1 – 6

Without flexing their muscles L&D Amsterdam Pirates slowly ran away with the win in only 6.5 innings.
In the second inning Pirates opened the score with the bases loaded as Patrick Bok flew out to right field for the sac fly that drove in Remco Draijer for the first run of the game. Jesse Aussems scored the second run on a single through the left side of the infield, hit by Rachid Gerard.
Two innings later, Koen Nooij tripled to left center field and was driven in on a single hit by Patrick Bok, who scored himself on a single towards third base hit by Kenny Berkenbosch. Mampaey the Hawks would get on the board in the top of the sixth when Odion Gouverneur scored from third base on a sacrifice fly hit by Berend Ruben. In the bottom of the sixth. Pirates scored two more runs to reach the final score.
Dennis Burgersdijk lasted five innings for the win. He gave up two hits, walked one and fanned three.
Kevin van Veen also lasted five inings, but gave up five runs on nine hits for the loss. He walked three and struck out one. 
Jesse Aussems went 2 for 3 but the most impact had Patrick Bok, who got one hit out of two at bats and who drove in two runs. Two players of Mampaey the Hawks got one hit out of two at bats.

UVV @ Pronto DSS  8 – 4

The second game that took less than nine innings was the one betwen UVV and Pronto DSS.
It looked like UVV would run away with the win easily when they led 2-1 after the first inning and scored a run in the third and one in the fourth, to make it 4-1. But in the bottom of the fourth, Pronto DSS would come back when they scored two runs. Tommy van de Sanden drew a walk with one out and advanced to second on a single by Sven Jongejans. Eventually Van de Sanden scored form third base on a single hit by Mark Smit. A bases loaded walk, drawn by Mitchell Koot drove in the third run for DSS. But UVV scored two runs in the next inning and two more in the sixth, while DSS only scored one more run.So eventually UVV won by eight runs to four.
Jerremyh Angela earned the win for UVV after pitching 1.1 innings in relief and after giving up only one run. Angela walked one and struck out two. Tim Halderman took the loss. He lasted 4.1 innings in which he gave up six runs (five earned) on six hits. He gave up seven walks and struck out one.
Brennan Nijhof went 2 for 4 with an RBI, but the most impact for UVV had Mike Bazuin with one hit out of three at bats and three RBI. Mark Smit went 3 for 3 with an RBI for DSS.

Corendon Kinheim @ HCAW  2 -2

The third game that didn’t take the full nine innings, in this case thanks to thunderstorms.
After the final out of the fourth inning, the score was still tied at zero. But finally in the top of the fifth inning, Corendon Kinheim broke open the score. Mervin Gario led off the ining and was hit by a pitch. He advanced to second base on a sac bunt laid down by Victor Draijer. Eventually Gario scored on a double hit by Bryan Engelhardt to righft center field. Engelhardt on his turn scored when Jeffrey Arends singled down the right field line.
Consecutive walks by Max Clarijs and RIkkert Kempen put runners on first and second for HCAW. When Marciano Philippi laid down a sac bunt, both runners advanced a base. When Roy Seltenrijch doubled to center field, both runners scored to tie the game at two. One inning later Kinheim took the lead thanks to a solo homerun by Bryan Engelhardt, but thanks to a thunderstorm the game was called and the score of the previous inning ended up in the record books.
Sander Helmendach pitched six innnings for HCAW and gave up two runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four. Kinheim used two pitchers. Tom Stuifbergen was pulled after 4.1 innings, in which he gave up two runs on four hits and in which he walked four and struck out one. Pim Walsma lasted 1.2 ininings and struck out one.
Bryan Engelhardt was the best hitter for Kinheim, going 1 for 2 with a double and an RBI. Despite the fact that Rikkert Kempen went 1 for 1 with a run scored, Roy Seltenrijch had the most impact with two hits out of four at bats with two runs batted in.

Vaessen Pioniers @ Curacao Neptunus  0 – 7

In a very one sided game Curacao Neptunus was too strong for Vaessen Pioniers. Pioniers’ starting pitcher Reggie Bomberg struggled through 2.1 innings, in which he gave up five runs (two earned) on one hit. Bomberg had trouble with finding the strike zone which resulted in six walks given up. After scoring five runs in the first three innings, Neptunus slowed down a bit. In the fifth Mourik Huijser drew a lead off walk before the next two hitters were retired. When Gyenuar Lopez also drew a walk, followed by a single hit by Urving Kemp, the bases were loaded. A single by Stijn van der Meer drove in Huijser for the fifth run. Neptunus would score one more run in the seventh to reach the final score.
Diegomar Markwell earned the win. He pitched six innings in which he gave up two hits and struck out two.
The best hitter for Neptunus was Stijn van der Meer, who went 2 for 4 with two RBI. Van der Meer entered the game as a pinch hitter for Dwayne Kemp in the first inning. The latter got involved in a quarrel with Rien Vernooij after the end of the top of the first inning and both were pulled by manager Evert-Jan ‘t Hoen. Best hitter for Pioniers was Mark Jan Moorman.
