Yankees and Dutchies in Spring Training, Tuesday March 31

On the last day of March, the Yankees fell to the Twins 3-1. Masahiro Tanaka allowed three runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings of work. He only struck out one batter. Tanaka claims that he didn’t throw full speed to save his arm for the season. I hope that he is not fooling us. We all know what happened after a flashy start. The only run for the Yankees was scored by Chris Young on a line drive to center field hit by Ramon Flores. Rob Refsnyder went 1 for 3 and drew a walk. The Yankees commited two errors but they did not lead to extra runs. Brendan Ryan flashed the leather as he robbed Eduardo Nunez from a basehit towards left field with a diving play.

The Mets beat the Nationals 2-0. Matt den Dekker entered the game in the top of the seventh as a defensive sub for the Nationals. Yes he has been traded two days ago. In his sole at bat he hit a line drive single to left field.

Jonathan Schoop went 2 for 3 in the 4-3 loss vs Tampa Bay and drove in Jimmy Paredes with a single in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Orioles scored a run in the sixth, seventh and eighth inning, but the Rays’ Brad Schreiber shut the door by retiring the side in the ninth inning.

Andrelton Simmons grounded out 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth in his sole at bat as the Braves lost to the Padres 8-5. Simmons replaced Brandon Cunniff as a pinch hitter and was replaced by Pedro Ciriaco in the top of the eighth.
