John Heyman, please cut the crap!!!

In the last 24 hours there is a rumour floating around that the Yankees are weighing their options to acquire Troy Tulowitzki, shortstop of the Colorado Rockies. This story was brought by John Heyman of CBS.

I really don’t know where he got this information from, but in the meantime at least one source from the Yankee organization have confirmed that this is not true.

Why on earth would the Yankees go after Tulowitzki, a thirty year old player? All signs point towards rejuvenation. The Yankees have acquired Didi Gregorius, Nathan Eovaldi, Garrett Jones and Domingo German in several trades. These are young kids. Why would you get an injury prone 30-year old shortstop instead? In my opinion this is a lot of hearsay. Tulowitski has spent a considerable amount of time on the DL during his career. I think that the Yankees have enough of that kind of players: CC Sabathia and Mark Teixeira to name just two. Over the last three seasons, Tulo has only played 254 games.

Besides that, the asking price of the Rockies would be way too steep. According to rumours from the days before the Gregorius trade, the Rockies asked for Dellin Betances, and a couple of prospects that are close to make the step towards MLB: Rob Refsnyder and Louis Severino and they wanted the Yankees to take the biggest chunk of  $144 million that Tulowitzki is about to get in the coming years.

Jack Curry stated in a tweet that was brought up by Heyman in the article: Curry

I agree with Jack Curry that trading Prado away may hurt the Yankees. He was one of the very few players that actually did hit last season. Besides that he could play multiple positions: a perfect guy to bring in from the bench or to use as a utitlity player or to use at second base. But the Yankees had to do something. The team couldn’t afford to muddle through like they did in the past three or four seasons, fielding a team with a lot of players at the wrong side of thirty without any hope on a championship.

I know that there are many Yankee fans that long for the days of the Boss. He bought every possible player for short term success. But those fans who have lived through the barren years of the eighties (just like me) must know that this doesn’t work. Was it a coincidence that the club started to blossom in the early nineties, when the boss was not allowed to run it? I don’t think so.

Like I said, all signs point towards rejuvenation. But with the Yankees you’ll never know. But if they may decide to trade for Tulowitzki and give up their future, it will be proof to me that the club is rudderless. On the other hand, it could be that these trades for younger guys are part of a bigger plan: to get Tulowitzki…..  I deliberately write “could it be” because I don’t believe it. The way the Yankees have avoided to go after big name pitchers and sign them to big contracts is a sign that they have seen the light. Or is that just wishful thinking?
