Dutchies in the MLB playoffs: NLDS game 2

             vs

The Giants took on the Washington Nationals yesterday. I can hear you think: “Dutchies in that game?” Not players but San Francisco’s hitting coach Hensley Meulens is a Dutchy as well. Meulens was the first player from Curacao that made it to the bigs. He is also responsible for the results of the Giants.
The fans in Nationals Park would get a lot of free baseball in a eightteen inning nailbiter.

The Nats opened the score in the third inning Asdrubal Cabrera led off for Washtington with a double and moved to third on a ground out to first base, hit by Denard Span. Anthony Rendon singled and drove in Cabrera for the opining run of the game.

In the next five innings not much happened. But eventually the Giants tied the game in the ninth. Down to their final out, the Giants’ Joe Panik drew a walk and moved to second on a single by Buster Posey. Pablo Sandoval then doubled to left center field and drove in Panik. Buster Posey tried to score from first, but was tagged out at homeplate, even after the instant replay that was requested by Giants’ manager Bruce Brochy.

It took another nine innings before the game was decided. The Giants’ Brandon Belt belted a homer (sorry for the pun) to right field to give the Giants a 2-1 lead.
All the Nats could do was drawing a walk in the eightteenth inning, but the rest of the batters was retired by Hunter Strickland.

Due to this win, the Giants now head to San Francisco with a 2-0 lead in the series.

In the other NLDS, the Cardinals had won game one.

In another close game, the Dodgers took a 2-0 lead in the  third inning. A.J. Ellis led off the inning with a double to center field. Pitchers can’t hit? Not Zach Greinke. He moved Ellis over to third with a soft linedrive to right field.
A.J. Ellis scored on a groundout by Dee Gordon (4-3). Zach Greinke moved to second on the play. Eventually Adrian Gonzalez drove in Greinke with a linedrive to center field.

It took both teams to the eighth before runs were scored again. With Oscar Taveras on first, Matt Carpenter homered to right field to tie the game at two.

The Dodgers took the lead again in their eighth at bat when Matt Kemp hit a lead off homerun.

In the ninth Kenley Janssen took the mound and retired the side (two with a strikeout).

Due to this Dodgers’ win, both teams head to Missouri with the series tied.
