Milan van der Breggen Goes Collegiate

In the past years, Dutch pitcher Milan van der Breggen returned to the Netherlands after the college season in the USA ended. This year it will be different. Milan will join one of the many collegiate teams in the US.

After he got his Master Degree at Oakland City College, he already made clear to the Dutch Baseball Hangout that he would not return to join his Dutch hoofdklasse team DSS/Kinheim. Instead of doing that, he was about to join a collegiate team. Not as a player but as pitching coach.

The other day, Milan announced through his social media accounts that he would join the Dubois County Bombers of the Prospect League, a wood bat collegiate league with teams in  Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.

In the past three seasons, Milan pitched for the Oakland City Mighty Oaks. In his rookie season with the Mighty Oaks, he had a 3-2 record with a 4.98 ERA. In 2023, he had a 1.000 winning percentage (3-0) with a 5.40 ERA. In the 2024 season, Milan pitched 7.1 innings in relief with a 1-2 record and an ERA that was on the high side.

Before his stint with Oakland City, Milan also played for Indian Hills Community College. He played two seasons (2019-2020 and 2020-2021) for the Warriors. In these two seasons, he made twelve appearances with one start. He posted a 0-1 record with an 8.62 ERA.

Milan started to play baseball in the Netherlands with Flying Petrels from Purmerend. He also played for a combination team in the Province of Noord Holland, called the Nighthawks.

Later in his career, he also played for the baseball academy Kennemerland Rabbits from Haarlem. In 2021, Milan was added to the Dutch hoofdklasse roster of DSS/Kinheim. In his rookie hoofdklasse season, he posted a 2-2 record with a 5.50 ERA. His best hoofdklasse season was in 2022 when he had a 2.86 ERA with an 0-1 record. In 2023 he was limited to ten appearances. He won and lost one game and posted a 5.23.

The Dutch Baseball Hangout wishes Milan a lot of success in his new role in the Prospect League. Enjoy your stay there.
