Camden RiverSharks on the move

A few weeks ago, this blog reported about the fact that the Atlantic League would fill the void that the New Britain RockCats left after the team moved to Hartford to become the YardGoats in 2016.

There was a lot of talk and suggesting which Atlantic League team would move to New Britain. The name that returned over and over again was that of the Camden RiverSharks, former team of team Kingdom of the Netherlands player Kalian Sams.

Yesterday it was announced that the RiverSharks will close the doors of Campbell’s Field. For years the team has been struggling to lure fans to the stadium and to make ends meet as a result.
The Camden County Improvement Authority was not interested to extend the stadium lease with the RiverSharks, sealing the fate of Atlantic League baseball in Camden.

Rumors have been swirling around that the New York – Penn League (A Short Season) would like to drop a team in Camden. But the soonest that a New York – Penn League team could move to Campbell’s Stadium will be in 2017.

As reported, the Atlantic League will pay $50,000 more than the RockCats did for the leas of the New Britain Stadium. But 90% of the money that they will get from parking revenue.

It will be very likely that the new club will organize a name the team contest to build a bond with the fans in New Britain.

As soon as the new name will be announced, you will read it here.
