Yankees and Dutchies in the Major League, Monday April 13

Once again the Yankees trailed most of the game but a four run seventh inning (thanks to a grand slam homerun hit by Stephen Drew), saved the game for them as they beat the Orioles 6-5. Didi Gregorius left three runners on base as he went 0 for 4 with a strikeout. Despite striking out twice and leaving two runners on base, Jonathan Schoop managed to get a double out of four at bats that drove in Manny Machado from second base. The Yankees’ Michael Pineda showed two faces. One that allowed five runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings, the other that fanned nine batters.

The Red Sox won with big numbers once again and not the least because of Xander Bogaerts. In Boston’s 9-4 victory over Washington, Xander went 2 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Xander’s batting average is a whopping .433 after last night. Xander also turned a 6-3 double play.

Despite a ninth inning rally that drove in a run, the Braves kept the Marlins at bay. In Atlanta’s 3-2 victory, Andrelton Simmons went 0 for 3 with a strikeout and a walk, leaving two runners on base. Andrelton was also caught stealing second base. On the defensive side he was the center piece of a 4-6-3 double play.

Another close victory, this time the Cubs over the Reds by 7-6 in seven innings. Pedro Strop pitched the ninth in a perfect fashion by retiring one hitter with a K and the other two with a pop out and a fly out.
