2025 Belgian Division One: July 13, Match of The Day
Two games today. One was worth mentioning as it was a matchup between the no. three and number four in the standings. Deurne Spartans hosted neighbour and rival Borgerhout Squirrels.

Borgerhout Squirrels 15 – 11 Deurne Spartans
After a close affair, yesterday, in which the Spartans stayed at the right side of the score, it was another close one until the seventh inning. Then the pitching of Deurne collapsed and as a result, the squirrels got a commanding lead.

But in the first innings of the game, it looked like Deurne would have a walk in the park. In the first inning, an RBI single by Daniel Bustamante, and a two run homer by Johiner Alfonso Arguizones Ocanto, gave the Spartans a 3-0 lead. In the next inning, a solo shot by Eder Hernandez Sarao, added another run to their score.
But it would be the last time Deurne was in the lead.
In the third inning, Sander De Saedeleer led off with a double to center field, followed by a single by Matthias Group that drove in De Saedeleer for Borgerhout’s first run. With the bases loaded and one out, Sam Boermans got on base on a fielders choice as the pitcher commited an error that allowed Cedric Vandesompele and Tim Veraghtert to score. Then Jens Boermans doubled to right center to drive in two more runs and to give the Squirrels the lead.
In the fifth, the sxith, and the seventh innings, both teams kept scoring runs but the decisive blow was dealt by the Squirrels in the top of the seventh inning when it scored seven runs thanks to an RBI single by Timen van Geel, a two-RBI double by Sander De Saedeleer, an RBI double by Matthias Group, and a three-RBI homer by Nick Vanthillo.

In the bottom of the ninth, Spartans flexed its muscles one more time as it scored thrice on Kevlin Delgado’s single to right field, but there the offensive push ended.
Brian Otto recorded the final out (1-3) for the Squirrels.
Matthias de Baets pitched 5.1 innings in relief for the win, as he gave up seven runs on ten hits and five walks, and struck out three. Elvis Joel Polanco Machado took the loss. He gave up eight runs (seven earned) on ten hits and two walks, as he struck out two in 5.2 innings and one-hundred-and-three pitches.
Tim Veraghtert hit a perfect 4 for 4 with one RBI and three runs scored.
